Safety concerns forcing suspension of operations

at Bisbee Post Office’s Warren Station this week

Open through Tuesday, Oct. 19

October 18, 2010

Bisbee Postmaster Elizabeth Arvizu announced today that the Postal Service will suspend operations at Bisbee’s Warren Station, 319 Arizona St., effective at the close of business on Tuesday, October 19, 2010.

Service is being suspended at Warren Station based on safety and health concerns, Arvizu said, as a result of the pending Wednesday, October 20, 2010, shutoff of water and sewer services to the building. The Postal Service leases the Warren Station facility location and is not the owner of the building, she noted.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this causes to our customers,” Arvizu said. “We are currently reviewing all options to provide postal services for this area.”

During the emergency suspension, Arvizu said Warren Station P.O. Box customers will be able to pick up their mail and access retail services at the Bisbee Main Post Office, 1248 West Highway 92, Bisbee, AZ 85603. That location offers full retail services from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on weekdays (closed for lunch between 1 and 2 p.m.).

Postal retail services are also available at the Copper Queen Station, located at 63 Main St. in Bisbee. In addition, customers can purchase stamps by visiting the Postal Service’s website at www.usps.com, or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
