BELDEN, CA — The store, café, RV park, cabin and campground at Belden now includes a Village Post Office (VPO). The Belden VPO is located in the Caribou Crossroads store owned and run by Mike and Pam Hanson, and on Thursday, May 30, 2013, 9 a.m., they will host a grand opening celebration at 16242 Hwy 70, Belden CA 95915.
Located in the beautiful Feather River Canyon, the VPO offers Forever stamps, prepaid packages and Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes and 96 Post Office Boxes in Centralized Delivery Units located adjacent to the store.
“For 237 years, we have had one charter — to bind the country together,” said Sacramento District Manager Al Santos. “We were created for that purpose by Benjamin Franklin, the first Postmaster General of the United States. The Post Office back then was at a crossroads, serving small, remote villages, like Belden, as the first social network. And here we are today, continuing in that tradition at Caribou Crossroads.”
Caribou is open year round, however, during the Winter Season (mid-October through mid-May) the hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday to Monday; and during the Summer Season, Monday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The area provides the perfect starting point for wilderness vacations, with hiking trails, trout fishing, gold mining, kayaking, and now a place to send your memorable photos and artifacts from a convenient Village Post Office.
VPOs are usually located in established businesses, giving them the added retail advantage of providing customers convenient access to the postal products and services used most often by consumers.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
