PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is proposing the relocation of the Pacific Palisades Post Office, 15209 W. Sunset Boulevard, to the Pacific Palisades Carrier Annex (the former Pacific Palisades Post Office) located at 15243 La Cruz Drive. The two facilities are about 125 yards apart.

If the move is approved, Post Office Box numbers and customers’ ZIP Codes would not change.

Public input on this proposed relocation is welcome. Postal Service representatives will be available to discuss the plan and receive feedback from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Pacific Palisades Carrier Annex, 15243 La Cruz Drive.

Written comments are also being accepted through April 18, 2014, and may be sent to:

The reason behind this proposal is the realignment of USPS infrastructure to a 20-percent drop in total mail volume over the past three years, brought about by the diversion to electronic communication and business transactions.

The Postal Service is in a very serious financial situation. Every opportunity to reduce expenses and operate more efficiently is being considered in order to maintain universal service.

USPS does not receive tax dollars for its operations or facilities, but covers costs solely through the revenue received from the sale of its products and services.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
