Busiest Mailing Day

What:  

The Sacramento Mail Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) is projecting a spike in package volume on December 19 when customers are expected to bring in 611 million pieces of mail to Post Offices nationwide.

The Sacramento P&DC has an automated package processing system, an automated parcel and bundle sorter and a small parcel sorting system to help handle an expected 12 percent increase in packages on this peak mailing day.

On an average day, the Postal Service processes 508 million pieces of mail. During the holiday season, that volume will increase to 525 million pieces of mail each day.
