WOODACRE, CA — On Friday, March 31, 2017, at 2:30 PM, Bill Gossy will raise his right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster at the Woodacre Post Office, 183 San Geronimo Valley Dr., Woodacre, CA 94973. Gossy will follow a proud tradition that began in 1925 when Helen M. Vowles was sworn in as the first Postmaster.
Marin County District #4 Supervisor Dennis Rodoni will administer the official oath of office.
Gossy started his postal career in 1996 as a casual carrier in Reno, NV. As a U.S. Air Force veteran, Gossy was able to take the in-service exam and was hired as a part-time flexible mail handler. Once clearing probation, he transferred back as a letter carrier, where he carried mail for 12 years in Reno and Mill Valley. Gossy began his management path as a supervisor of customer service at the San Rafael Post Office. He also supervised in both the Sausalito and Mill Valley post offices as well as serving as Officer-in-Charge of the Point Reyes Post Office. He branched into sales as the Headquarters Business Solutions Specialist and was the Business Development Specialist for the San Francisco postal district prior to his selection as Postmaster.
“I appreciate the privilege to represent the Postal Service in the Woodacre community,” said Gossy. My goal is to provide a Post Office the community has confidence in and one that will be the pride of the community and my employees.”
Gossy, 59, enjoys motorcycle riding, golf, skeet and trap shooting, and up-cycle crafts, by making wind chimes out of old teapots and knives, forks and spoons.
He and his wife, Laurie, reside in San Rafael. Gossy has two daughters, Lisa and Trisha who live in Reno, NV with four grandchildren.
Gossy is very active in his community. He is president of his homeowners association, serves on the board of directors of a non-profit organization and sits on a road advisory committee in San Rafael.
As Postmaster, Gossy manages all postal operations at the Woodacre Post Office with two employees who process and deliver an average of 3,133 pieces of mail daily to 976 PO Boxes.
