HILLSBORO, IA – Due to safety concerns, the U.S. Postal Service has made the decision to emergency suspend the Hillsboro Post Office as of the lease expiration of October 31.

Hillsboro is a leased facility and the landlord has decided against completing necessary repairs.

Retail services have been relocated to the Bonaparte Post Office located at 626 First Street in Bonaparte, Iowa.

The Bonaparte Post Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Hillsboro customers may also retrieve notice-left items during those times with photo ID.

Temporary Cluster Box Units (CBUs) for Post Office Box delivery have been installed in front of the Hillsboro Library located at 100 W Commercial Street.  Post Office Box customers may pick up their keys for their new box at the Bonaparte Post Office.

The Postal Service will do everything possible to continue providing uninterrupted service to the community while seeking alternate quarters in Hillsboro.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
