Main Post Office Closed Sunday for Electrical Maintenance

Will reopen after Labor Day weekend

CHICAGO — The retail unit of the Main Post Office, 433 W. Harrison St., will be closed Sun., Sept 4, during a routine electrical maintenance project covering most of the building.

There will be no retail window service, passport service or access to the Self-Service Kiosks. Post Office Box customers will have access to their boxes.

Customers needing window service on Sept. 4 may visit these locations:

  • Fort Dearborn, 540 N. Dearborn (10 AM – 2 PM)
  • Graceland, 3024 N. Ashland (11 AM – 2 PM)

Many postal transactions, including buying stamps, paying for postage and making shipping and delivery arrangements, may be handled online at usps.com.

All Post Offices, stations and branches will be closed Mon., Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.

The Main Post Office retail unit will reopen at its regularly scheduled time on Tues., Sept. 6. The Chicago Post Office thanks customers for their understanding, and regrets any inconvenience.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
