Northampton postal workers and the Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp

Northampton, MA – The Postal Service has been an over-the-long haul raiser of funds for breast cancer research since 1998, $83 million.

Employees stand behind co-workers and customers who have suffered. Each Post Office has a different level of commitment to the fight against breast cancer, and sometimes it’s because of the closeness to the ones you love. Or sometimes it’s because it’s October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month or something new, Wear Pink Day Oct. 26.

This year, Northampton, MA, Customer Service Supervisor John Makara (not pictured) asked Retail Associates (from left) Isidoro (Izzy) Santiago, Daniel Manjourea and Charles Klepacki if they would like to wear postal-authorized T-shirts to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Without any hesitation they said “yes” and surprisingly opted for the bright pink shirts in place of the black ones. Their color choice engaged very positive feedback from customers.

All three and Makara, have had family members affected by the disease. Manjourea’s wife and Klepacki’s sister fought their battles and became survivors. Santiago’s two aunts and Makara’s wife were not as fortunate.
