The National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award is presented to professional drivers for operating a motor vehicle on the job for more than one million miles without a preventable accident. Reaching this unique milestone requires 30 years of service and an unwavering attention to safety. To put it in perspective, you would have to travel around the earth 40.1 times to cover one million miles.

Since 2005, when records were established, more than 7,000 postal employees have been recognized for driving at least one million miles without a single accident. The Postal Service has one of the world’s largest civilian fleets with approximately 211,000 vehicles. More than 321,000 letter carriers and truck drivers log more than 1.3 billion miles annually when delivering to America’s 153 million addresses.
