  • Where to go to receive SSI checks in select Zip Codes -- list

Local postal operations continue to recover after the temporary suspensions of delivery and retail services around the region in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Postal officials note that Social Security checks (SSI) due for delivery on November 1st will be delivered in those locations where mail services will be restored and safe access to the mailbox is assured.

Officials note that some ZIP Codes around Long Island will require a customer pickup of the SSI check at an alternate location, if home delivery can not be made.  Those offices include:

  • All SSI checks for non-deliverable addresses in Island Park (Zip Code 11558) and East Rockaway (11518) can be picked up at Lynbrook Post Office, 100 Broadway in Lynbrook
  • All SSI checks for non-deliverable addresses in Atlantic Beach (11509) can be picked up at the Lawrence Post Office,12 Bayview Ave, Lawrence, NY 11559
  • All SSI checks for non-deliverable addresses in Long Beach (11561) can be picked up at the Western Nassau Window Service unit at 830 Stewart Ave in Garden City

  • All SSI checks for non-deliverable addresses in Bayville  (11709) can be claimed at the Oyster Bay Post Office, 1 Shore Ave, Oyster Bay

In all locations, no checks will be released without proper identification.  This includes photo identification and identification bearing the address exactly as it appears on the check.    One form of ID meeting both requirements, such as a current driver’s license, is sufficient.
