LONG ISLAND CITY, NY— The United States Postal Service (“Postal Service”) has been asked to vacate the present Plaza Station Post Office located at 2418 Queens Plaza South, Long Island City, New York.  The Postal Service occupies this property under a lease which will expire later this year.  The  building owner has other plans for the property and will not be renewing the Plaza Post Office lease agreement.

The Postal Service is proposing to relocate the Post Office to a yet-to-be determined new location within the 11101 zip code area.  Ideally, the new location will comprise roughly 1,000 square feet of space which will be modified to accommodate postal operations and customer services.

The Postal Service will present this proposal at the May 1, 2014 Queens Community Board 2 public meeting being held at Sunnyside Community Services, 43-31 39th Street, Ground Floor, Sunnyside, New York.  The meeting starts at 7:00 pm.  It is not necessary to attend the public meeting in order to comment.

Written comments on this proposal are being accepted May 16, 2014.  Comments should reference this post office by name and be sent to the following address:

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
