NEW YORK CITY — Monday, October 13th is Columbus Day, a holiday for federal agencies like the U.S. Postal Service, so Post Offices will be closed and there won’t be mail delivery.  But that doesn’t mean we aren’t available for our customers. With a little exploring, you can find many postal services right on our website at www.usps.com.

If you’re a customer looking for stamps, you can order them online, buy them at many local stores and banks, or visit a self service kiosk even when the Post Office is closed. If you need to do more than buy stamps, visit our website to find approved postal partners who offer our most popular services at https://www.usps.com/locator.

The Postal Service also offers self service kiosk service at select locations; with many available for business 24/7.  You can perform a number of postal transactions at the kiosks including weighing and shipping packages, buying postage, mailing letters, looking up ZIP Codes and accessing other mailing information. Special services like certified mail and insurance are also available.  Find a USPS self service kiosk in your vicinity by visiting www.usps.com/locator.

And speaking of mailing packages, as we gear up for our busiest package season, consider using Click ‘N Ship, which allows you to mail a package right from home. With Click “n Ship you can print your postage paid shipping label and you can even arrange for a letter carrier to pick up the package, saving you a trip to the Post Office.  You can also order free mailing supplies like Priority Mail boxes to get a head start on your holiday mailing.

If you’re a local business looking for new customers, the holiday weekend is a perfect time to create a mailing piece that can be sent economically to your surrounding area. Go to https://www.usps.com/business/every-door-direct-mail.htm to learn how you can send your mail for less than 20 cents per piece. You can map out a target area, use demographic data (e.g. age, household income, and size) to select a delivery route, choose a mailing drop off date, and pay online—all from your computer.  And, you can create your mailings up to 30 days before you plan to mail them. You’ll also find great tools to help you as well as saving coupons that reduce your cost. You can find more information at: https://www.usps.com/ship/online-shipping-tools.htm.

Christopher Columbus once said, “You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” We like to say, you’ll never know what we have to offer outside of our lobbies if you don’t explore the many options we offer online. Go to www.usps.com and see what new discoveries you may find.
