JOHNSTOWN, PA — Greater Prospect, located on William Penn Avenue in Johnstown, joins a growing list on Thursday, July 16th, becoming the latest Village Post Office (VPO) in the Western PA District. The Village Post Office is part of the Postal Service’s initiative to provide communities with expanded access to postal products.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place for the new Johnstown VPO on Thursday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at the Greater Prospect Store, 110 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15901.

The Johnstown Village Post Office - with operating hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. - offers sales of stamps and accepts pre-paid packages. The new VPO will also carry Expedited packaging (free Priority and Priority Mail Express Flat-Rate boxes and envelopes) for added convenience in mailing packages.

Village Post Offices are operated by local businesses and offer popular products and services such as stamps and Flat-Rate packaging. The VPO concept was established in response to the changing mailing needs of the American consumer as more and more customers demand easier, more convenient access to Postal products and services where they are conducting business in their communities.

A Western PA Post Office Operations Manager will officiate the ribbon-cutting ceremony with assistance from Greater Prospect Manager James Britt.

With 32,000 Postal retail offices and more than 70,000 third-party retailers – Approved Postal Providers – selling postage stamps and providing expanded access to Postal products, customers today have nearly 100,000 locations across the nation where business can be done with the Postal Service including the Post Office that never sleeps online at www.usps.com. The USPS website allows customers to enter their ZIP codes to find locations where Postal products and services – including VPOs – are available.
