Two new Contract Postal Units open in Lexington County

CPUs now number 41 in Greater SC District, ZIPs 290-6

May 24, 2010

To increase convenience and access to Postal services in the Midlands, two new Contract Postal Units (CPU) are now open in Lexington County, Three Fountains CPU at Ace Hardware in West Columbia, and Village Square CPU at Wild Birds Unlimited in Lexington.

A full line of Postal products and services are available at both new units including stamps, Express and Priority mail service, special services, and much more. CPUs offer all the window service of a Post Office except money orders and P.O. Boxes.

Postal customers may also deposit letter and parcel mail at the contract units, which feature personalized service and shorter wait time in line. Increased service at Contract Postal Units also helps shorten lines at established Post Offices.

“We are proud to serve the community here in West Columbia,” said Three Fountains Ace Hardware owner, Terry Reynolds, “this new Contract Unit will provide the convenience and services this community has been asking for.”

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
