Post Offices Adjust Hours for Christmas and New Year’s Holidays

All area Post Offices to close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – Post Offices in ZIP Codes beginning with 233, 234, 235, 236, 237 and 238 will observe the following schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays:

Post Office Retail Operations

  • All retail offices will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 31.
  • All retail offices will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Delivery Operations

  • All post offices will provide full delivery service on Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec.31.
  • There will be no delivery Saturday, Dec. 25 or Saturday, Jan. 1 except for Express Mail.

Collection Operations

  • The last pick-up time for all collection points (blue boxes, lobby drop slots and Contract Postal Units) will be at noon on Friday, Dec. 24 and Friday, Dec. 31.
  • No collection box pick-ups will be made on Saturday, Dec. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Normal retail, delivery and collection schedules will resume on Monday, Dec. 27 and Monday, Jan. 3.

PO Box customers will have normal access to their lobby boxes.  Commercial customers are asked to check with their Business Mail Entry Unit for hours of operation on both Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

To assist customers with their holiday mailing needs, the following Hampton Roads area post offices will have extended hours on Saturday, Dec. 18:

Following is a list of Contract Postal Units (CPU’s) and their regular hours of operation.  A CPU, located inside a retail establishment and operated by the retailer's employees, is an authorized contractor for the Postal Service.  Customers can conduct most of the same transactions as they would at the Post Office and at the same prices.  Mail accepted by the CPU past the collection time will be dated for the next business day.  Customers should check with the establishment for specific holiday hours.
