Background:

Logan Stephen Palmer of Harristown, IL was born February 16, 1994, in Decatur, IL, son of Sidney L. and Theresa Palmer and brother to Austin, Kaleb, and Madison Palmer. Early in life he attended Northwest Christian Church School where he was baptized. He later attended Harristown Grade School before entering Sangamon Valley High School. As a high school student he participated in Band, German Club, and was on the honor roll before graduating with the Class of 2012. He went on to enroll at Richland Community College, ultimately graduating with an associate degree in 2014 as a member of the Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society.

Logan was an active young man outside of the classroom as well. He was a member of Cub Scouts Troop 117 and Boy Scouts of America Troop 43. He was admitted into the Order of the Arrow and achieved the highest obtainable rank of Eagle Scout in 2011. Always a hard worker, he spent his summers seal coating driveways across the area.

Logan answered the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Navy in April of 2016. He was stationed at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes where he completed Basic Training with Division 16-217 and received further training in US Navy Class A School. Upon completion of those trainings he was stationed at Naval Base San Diego where he attended US Navy Class C School, finishing 3rd in his class. His first assignment was to the USS John S McCain (DDG-56).

On December 6, 2018, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 1355 North Meridian Road in Harristown, Illinois, as the “Logan S. Palmer Post Office, was signed into law by President Donald Trump.

Logan S. Palmer’s legacy of service to his country is permanently honored with the dedication of the Harristown IL Post Office.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
