PERSONAL, TANGIBLE, MEASURABLE

IT’S NEVER BEEN EASIER TO SEND DIRECT MAIL

Graphic: Every Door Direct Mail

It’s now easier for small-business owners to harness the power of direct mail to attract new customers and increase revenue. With the Postal Service's Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM), businesses can market to every address in their neighborhoods without having to rent mailing lists.

EDDM uses mail delivery route information instead of names and exact addresses, to reach targeted groups in specific geographic areas. The mail can be addressed to “Postal Customer,” “Residential Customer,” or “PO Boxholder.”

With EDDM Retail, no permits are needed — although existing permits may be used — and there are no special fees. Mail is dropped off at the local Post Office serving its destination or shipped by Priority Mail to a destinating Post Office following instructions posted on usps.com.

Businesses can use a simple online tool at https://smp.usps.gov to identify neighborhoods and number of households, prepare mailing documentation and calculate postage.

“Every Door Direct Mail is ideal for restaurants, doctors’ offices, hair salons — or any kind of local business that is not currently using the mail,” says Paul Vogel, president and chief marketing/sales officer. “Direct mail has long been a proven advertising tool of choice of successful large businesses and Fortune 500 companies to promote products and drive sales. Now it’s easier and less expensive for small businesses to grow using direct mail."

To learn more about EDDM, go to: www.usps.com/everydoordirectmail.

According to the Direct Marketing Association, every $1 spent on direct mail generates $12.57 in sales.

Many Post Offices are holding Grow Your Business Days seminars to introduce customers to Every Door Direct Mail. For more information and to register, visit usps.gov/everydoordirectmail.

Looking for greater control over who receives your shipments?

Adult Signature is now available from the Postal Service. This extra service provides a method for customers to obtain a signature at delivery from an adult recipient who is 21 years of age or older.

The option is available for commercial and online customers who use Express Mail, Priority Mail, Critical Mail, Parcel Select barcoded nonpresort and Parcel Select Regional Ground for their shipping.

There are two variations of Adult Signature:

  • Adult Signature Required. This requires the signature of a recipient 21 years of age or older upon delivery. The cost is $4.75 per piece.
  • Adult Signature Restricted Delivery. This requires the signature of the addressee (or agent with written authorization) only, who must be 21 years of age or older upon delivery. The cost is $4.95 per piece.

Additional details can be found at usps.com/shipping/adultsignature.htm.

WHAT’S UP

FEEDING THE HUNGRY

Thanks to the generosity of USPS customers, this year's "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive collected more than 70 million pounds of food donations. The event is led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with the help of rural carriers, other postal employees and numerous other volunteers. The drive is the nation's largest single-day food drive.

We're everywhere so you can be anywhere.

HONORS FOR SUPPLIER DIVERSITY

USPS has been voted as America's No. 1 government agency for providing multicultural business opportunities. That's according to a survey of more than 750,000 business owners by DiversityBusiness.com. This marks the 11th consecutive year the Postal Service has appeared on the top 10 list.
