Forever Stamp

On August 7, 2009, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the David Lawrence Convention Center during the American Philatelic Society Stamp Show (no ceremony), the Postal Service™ will re-issue the nondenominated First-Class Mail® definitive, Forever Stamp™ (Liberty Bell) in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) double-sided booklet of 20 (Item 678900). The stamp, designed by Carl T. Herrman, North Las Vegas, Nevada, goes on sale nationwide August 7, 2009.

The first 2009 double-sided booklet of 20 was issued May 15, 2009.

How to Order the First Day of Issue Postmark

Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by October 8, 2009.

Philatelic Products

There is one philatelic product available for this stamp issue:

Items with an asterisk (*) will use the 128 barcode from Stamp Fulfillment Services. All other philatelic products will continue to use barcode series A, with the exception of the Yearbook and the Guide Book.

Distribution: Item 678900 Non-denominated ($8.80 Value) Forever Stamp (Liberty Bell), PSA Double-sided Booklet of 20

SDOs will receive automatic distribution quantities of this nondenominated Forever Stamp booklet variety, printed by both Avery Dennison and Ashton Potter.

Initial distributions will be one wave from each manufac­turer. Avery Dennison shipments will begin on July 13, 2009, and will be complete by August 19, 2009, shipping west to east. Ashton Potter shipments will begin on July 13, 2009, and will be complete on August 7, 2009, shipping east to west. Distributions are rounded up to nearest mas­ter carton size (4,000 booklets).

Initial Supply to Post Offices

SDOs will not make a subsequent automatic distribution to Post Offices. Post Offices requiring quantities of the Forever Stamp booklet of 20 should continue to order Item 677700 from their designated SDO using PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition/Stamp Return. SDOs will continue to ship Item 677700 in place of Item 678900, until existing supplies of Item 677700 are depleted. SDOs should not ship any quantities of Item 678900 (Avery or Ashton Potter versions) prior to July 31, 2009.

Additional Supply

Post Offices requiring quantities of the Forever Stamp booklet of 20 should continue to order Item 677700 from their designated SDO using a separate PS Form 17. SDOs will continue to ship Item 677700 in place of Item 678900 until existing supplies of Item 677700 are depleted.

SDOs requiring quantities of the Forever Stamp booklet of 20 should continue to order Item 677700 from their des­ignated accountable paper depository (APD) using PS Form 17. APDs will have additional quantities of 678900 and will begin to ship them once quantities of Item 677700 are depleted. The supplier will ship additional quantities of Item 678900 via future automatic distributions directly to SDOs when needed.
