Stamp Announcement 13-26: Johnny Cash Stamp

Stamp Announcement 13-26: Johnny Cash Stamp

On June 5, 2013, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Grand Ole Opry Ryman Auditorium, the Postal Service™ will issue a Johnny Cash (Forever® priced at 46 cents) commemorative First-Class mail® stamp in one design in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 16 stamps (Item 579400). The $7.36 Johnny Cash pane of 16 stamps may not be split, and the stamps may not be sold individually.

The stamp will go on sale nationwide June 5, 2013.

The U.S. Postal Service® honors music visionary Johnny Cash, best remembered internationally as a country music artist, though his influence can be felt in many genres — from rock and folk to blues and gospel. The stamp, part of the Music Icons series, features a photograph taken by Frank Bez during a photo session for Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash (1963). The square stamp and pane resemble the appearance of a 45 rpm record sleeve. The reverse side of the pane includes a larger version of the photograph featured on the stamp as well as the logo for the Music Icons series. Greg Breeding served as the art director and designer.

Post Offices may preorder these stamps 30 days prior to first-day-of-issue through the eBuy2 SEAM Catalog. However, offices should first check the website to determine the amount they will receive on their automatic push prior to placing a preorder. Post Offices should not sell the stamp prior to first-day-of-issue.

Sales Policy

All Post Offices should maintain a sufficient inventory level of this item until the stamp is officially withdrawn from sale. If supplies run low, Post Offices must reorder additional quantities using their normal ordering procedures.

How to Order the First-Day-of-Issue Postmark

Customers have 60 days to obtain the first-day-of-issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first-day-of-issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark up to a quantity of 50. For more than 50, customers have to pay five cents each. All orders must be postmarked by August 5, 2013.

Special Dedication Postmarks

Only the following pictorial postmark is permitted for the Johnny Cash stamp. The word “Station” or the abbreviation “STA” is required somewhere in the design, because it will be a temporary station.
