So, someone has offered you a GIFT... DID YOU KNOW that, as a general rule, the ethics laws do not allow postal employees to accept gifts given to them by a non-Federal source? There are a few exceptions to this rule. Here are some examples of how an employee could possibly run afoul of the ethics laws: • by accepting a gift from a non-Federal source that has a fair market value of more than $20. • by accepting cash, checks, money orders or credit card gift cards (of any amount). • by asking a non-Federal source for a gift. • by accepting a gift when there is an appearance that laws or ethics regulations have been violated.
