DMM Revision: New Priority Mail Window Flat Rate Envelope

Effective October 1, 2014, we revised Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®), to add a Priority Mail® Window Flat Rate Envelope to the suite of Flat Rate Envelopes. This new envelope makes it easier for customers who mail pre-addressed full page documents. The new window envelope is the same price and size (12 ½" x 9 ½") as the Priority Mail Flat Rate® Envelope and is only available online at http://usps.com. Although this update will not be in the DMM until December 8, 2014, this standard is effective immediately.

1.8.1 Flat Rate Envelopes Price and Eligibility

[Revise the text of 1.8.1 to read as follows:]

There are two types of USPS-produced Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelopes: A paperboard envelope and a padded envelope. All USPS-produced Priority Mail envelopes smaller than the EP14F/W envelopes (12.5 inches by 9.5 inches) are eligible for the Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope price whether or not they are marked “Flat Rate Envelope.” Each type of USPS-produced Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope is priced at a flat rate regardless of the actual weight (up to 70 pounds) of the mailpiece or domestic destination.

When effective, we will incorporate these revisions into the next online update of the DMM, which is available via Postal Explorer® at http://pe.usps.com.
