Temporary Suspension of Mail Service to Yemen

Effective August 1, 2015, the Postal Service temporarily suspended mail service to Yemen. Until further notice, all Post Offices and other acceptance locations must not accept any mail destined to the country of Yemen. The temporary suspension affects Global Express Guaranteed®, Priority Mail Express International®, Priority Mail International®, First-Class Mail International®, First-Class Package International Service®, International Priority Airmail™ (IPA®), International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®), and M-Bag® items.

For already deposited items addressed to Yemen, Postal Service employees must endorse them “Mail Service Temporarily Suspended — Return to Sender” and then place them in the mail stream for return.

For any returned item bearing a customs declaration form, as well as for any item shipped with Global Express Guaranteed or Priority Mail Express International service, the Postal Service will, upon request, refund postage and fees on mail returned due to the suspension of service.

For any other returned item not bearing a customs declaration form, the Postal Service will, upon request, refund postage and fees on mail returned due to the suspension of service, or the sender may remail the item with the existing postage once the Postal Service restores service to Yemen. When remailing under this option, the customer must cross out the marking “Mail Service Temporarily Suspended — Return to Sender.”
