DMM Revision: Business Reply Mail

Effective March 6, 2017, the Postal Service will revise Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®), section 505.1.0, Business Reply Mail (BRM), to clarify the standards for BRM labels.

Although this revision will not be published in the DMM until March 6, 2017, these standards are effective immediately.

1.4.8 Labels

For general use, the minimum size of a BRM label is 2 inches high and 3 inches long. BRM labels are not required to have a FIM or a ZIP+4 barcode, but all other format standards in 1.5 must be met. In cases where a BRM card or letter is used improperly as a label, the USPS treats the item as waste. See 1.4.9 for labels on letter-size pieces.
