Financial Literacy Month

April is Financial Literacy Month and the Postal Service Wellness team has tips to keep you financially fit:

n Know where you stand. Make sure your credit score is above 680. Your score will be higher if you carry less debt and you pay your bills on time.

n Cut back on unnecessary spending. Cut back on eating out, buying coffee, or shopping for things you don’t need. By decreasing your spending, you can lower your level of unnecessary debt.

n Save for retirement now. Save for retirement no matter where you are in your career. Participate in the Thrift Savings Program to prepare for retirement. FERS employees can contribute 5 percent of their basic pay to receive the full 5 percent Postal Service contribution.

Stay financially healthy throughout the year — make a plan to check your finances thoroughly every other month. Visit liteblue.usps.gov/financialwellness for more information.
