7-3 Electronic File Requirements — Electronic File Format Version 1.3

There is a direct relationship between the barcode on the address label and the electronic file format. See 7-4.3 for the standard 13-digit barcoded label requirement.

The coding guidelines for Electronic File Format Version 1.3, which is to be used for Detail Record 1, are as follows:

  1. “EX” is required in Mail Class field.
  2. “DB” prefix is required in PIC field.
  3. The 5-digit ZIP Code is required in the Destination ZIP Code field.
  4. For a shipment to a DDU facility only, the ZIP+4 is required in the Destination ZIP+4 field.
  5. “O” (alpha) is required in the Processing Category field.
  6. The correct destination rate indicator (see Appendix C, Table 5) is required in the Destination Rate Indicator field.
  7. “PA” is required in Rate Indicator Field.
  8. The correct Zone (either “00” or “01–08”) is required in Zone Field.
  9. “E” is required in the No Weekend/Holiday Delivery field.
