David C. Fields was selected to serve as the vice president, Area Operations, Capital Metro Area, in June 2011.

The Capital Metro Area has over 58,106 employees and more than 2,749 Post Offices. This area of responsibility encompasses 132,370 square miles throughout eight districts/performance clusters: Atlanta, Baltimore, Capital, Greater South Carolina, Greensboro, Mid-Carolinas, Northern Virginia, and Richmond. As the vice president, he oversees mail service to approximately 15.9 million customers.

Previously, Fields served as the district manager and lead executive for the Mid-Carolinas District, an area of over 25,000 square miles in North Carolina and South Carolina. He led more than 7,000 employees and was responsible for operations in five distribution centers and more than 400 Post Offices. During his tenure, the Mid-Carolinas District became a national performance and service leader.

Fields also served as the district manager in the Greensboro (NC) and Hawkeye (IA) districts; manager, Operations Support in the Midwest Area (St. Louis, MO); senior plant manager, Chicago, IL; director, Field Operations, in the Northern Illinois District; Postmaster, Fredericksburg VA; and director, Marketing and Communications, in Roanoke, VA.

Fields was awarded the U.S. Postal Service Diversity Award and Board of Governors Award in 1996, and the Deputy Postmaster General Award in 2008.

Fields began his postal career in 1981 as a letter sorting machine operator in Bristol, TN. A Queen’s University graduate, he earned a Master of Business Administration from the McColl School of Business in Charlotte, NC.

Fields is a retired officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He and his wife Anna reside in Rockville, MD.
