Dean Granholm

Vice President, Area Operations — Pacific Area

Dean Granholm was named vice president, Area Operations for the Pacific Area in November 2012. He is the senior postal official in an area that encompasses California, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the trust territories.

Granholm oversees approximately 67,400 employees who collect, transport, process and deliver 64.6 million pieces of mail each day to 16.6 million delivery points. He also administers an annual budget of $6.1 billion. He reports to the chief operating officer and executive vice president.

Previously, Granholm served as vice president, Delivery and Post Office operations. In this role, he oversaw the Postal Service’s efforts to improve delivery and helped implement Village Post Offices, in which rural businesses offer postal services. Granholm also helped lead the efforts to keep small Post Offices open with modified hours.

Since joining the Postal Service in 1982 as a letter carrier in Woodland Hills, California, Granholm has served as Colorado-Wyoming district manager, Western Area manager of delivery programs support, and Postmaster of Boulder, Colorado, among other roles.

Granholm earned a bachelor’s degree in business management at Regis University in Denver. He was honored with the Postmaster General Award in 2008 and received Vice Presidents Awards in 2001, 2004 and 2008.

He and his wife Doris have three children, Kimberlee, Tyler and Danielle.
