Shaun Mossman was named vice president, Area Operations, Southern Area, in February 2016. He acted in this position from November 2015 until February 2016, overseeing all postal operations — including mail processing, distribution, customer service, and administrative functions — in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, and parts of Georgia and South Carolina. The Southern Area encompasses over 640,000 total square miles of territory. He reports to the chief operating officer and executive vice president.

As a senior postal official, Mossman’s responsibilities include overseeing all operations at 5,793 postal facilities including mail processing centers, retail and delivery units and managing a workforce of over 113,000 employees. The Southern Area has an operating budget of more than $10 billion. Each day, more than 230 million pieces of mail are collected, processed and delivered to over 32 million delivery points. Last year, the Southern Area generated in excess of $10 billion in revenue.

In March 2014, Mossman was named vice president, Finance and Planning. In that role, Mossman reported to the chief financial officer and executive vice president, and was responsible for all revenue and expense budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis and program evaluation. He was also instrumental in completing the Postal Service’s Fiscal Year 2016 integrated financial plan.

Mossman’s strong operations background was built by service in a succession of high-level positions, including manager, Operations Support, for the Western Area, where he was responsible for all postal operations, including mail processing and distribution, delivery and customer services, transportation, maintenance and administrative operations. Mossman also served as district manager of the Nevada-Sierra District and Big Sky, Montana District. Under his leadership, the districts consistently ranked among the best in the nation in on-time delivery of overnight First-Class Mail and customer satisfaction.

Mossman began his postal career in 1987 when he was a letter carrier in Newport News, VA. He was subsequently promoted to a number of roles of increasing responsibility, including a variety of top staff and management positions in the Richmond, VA, District. Mossman also served as Colorado/Wyoming District manager of Operations Programs Support, which under his leadership, achieved the top overall service ranking as measured by the Postal Service’s National Performance Assessment.

Mossman has a degree in business administration from Strayer University, is a graduate of the Postal Service Advanced Leadership Program and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Executive Green Belt.
