Duane Bowen Sworn-in as Joplin’s New Postmaster

JOPLIN, MO – Duane R. Bowen was sworn-in as Joplin’s new postmaster on June 8. He succeeds Pamela Richards, who retired from the Postal Service. Mr. Bowen started with the Postal Service in 1992 as a temporary letter carrier at the Springfield, MO Post Office after serving in the U.S. Army.

He has served in areas of increasing responsibility for the Postal Service, including Customer Service Supervisor at the Glenstone Station Post Office in Springfield; acting station manager at Glenstone; Officer-in-Charge (acting postmaster) in Marshfield and Carthage, MO Post Offices, prior to his promotion as Carthage postmaster in 1999.

Mr. Bowen earned both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an MBA from Springfield’s Drury University.

He has served in a number of detail positions in St Joseph, MO and Joplin, and later served as the station manager at the Blue Valley Branch Post Office, located in Johnson County, KS.

Mr. Bowen is also a member of a team of postmasters established by USPS Headquarters to train newly appointed postmasters and station managers.
