Evansville Post Office to present 50-year service award

EVANSVILLE, IN – Larry Herron could have been listening to Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head on the radio when he began career in federal service. That was the #1 song in the country on Jan. 27, 1970.

The Postal Service will honor Herron for his 50 years of dedicated service at a special ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. (CST). The ceremony will take place at Evansville Diamond Valley Post Office, 600 Cross Valley Circle.

After serving in the United States Navy, Herron started his career with the Postal Service in Florida. He moved to Evansville in 1983 as a letter carrier and has delivered mail on his current route for almost 20 years. Herron has a many good memories of delivering to his customers, especially watching the children on his route grow up. When asked what he would like people to know about him, Herron said, “I want to thank God for keeping me healthy and safe so I can continue doing my job.”

Herron’s wife, Sally, one of his twin daughters, and his three grandchildren will be in attendance at the event.

The Kentuckiana District serves ZIP Codes 400-409, 411-427 in Kentucky and 471, 476-477 in southern Indiana.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
