Jackson Post Office letter carrier to receive Postmaster General Hero Award

Employee donated her kidney to save the life of an unknown recipient

What:

The United States Postal Service is recognizing Letter Carrier Martha Olsen, Jackson Post Office, with the Postmaster General Hero Award. Olsen donated her kidney, through a kidney paired donation program, to save the life of an unknown recipient.

After reading a post on Facebook of a local father in need of a kidney transplant, Olsen volunteered to be tested. Though she was not a match for the father, Olsen was found a match for an unknown recipient in another state. The surgery to remove her kidney and transport the kidney to the recipient was successful. Upon her return to work, her heroic action is being recognized.
