Postal Service Prepares for Winter Weather

Customers Reminded to Clear a Path to Mailbox

NORTH CAROLINA — With winter weather in the forecast this weekend, the Postal Service reminds customers to keep curbside mailboxes and walkways free of snow and ice.

Customers’ cooperation allows postal carriers to provide the best possible mail service. For curbside delivery, snow must be cleared to the curb for at least six feet on both sides of the mailbox so the carriers’ vehicles may approach and leave without backing up.

During and after a storm postal employees make every reasonable, safe attempt to deliver mail. Delivery that is unable to take place safely due to snow or ice will be attempted again the following day.

Customers with questions or comments about their mail service can call toll-free 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) or contact us through Twitter @USPSHelp.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
