Columbus, Ohio Letter Carrier Gerald Davis has joined an elite group of Postal Service employees to individually drive more than a million, accident-free miles. He will receive recognition during a ceremony beginning at 8:30 am on Thursday, October 18, 2019 at the East City Post Office, 850 Twin Rivers Road, Columbus, Ohio 43216.

The National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award recognizes professional drivers who have not had an at-fault accident for 30 years or more of their driving career. According to the National Safety Council, the Safe Driver Award is the trademark of the expert driver and is recognized as the nation’s highest award for professional safe driving.

Safe postal driving practices, like using seat belts, speed reduction, refraining from the use of hands-free devices that lead distracted driving and general defensive driving techniques, are among the Council’s tips for safe driving.

The Postal Service does not receive tax dollars for operating expenses; it relies entirely on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
