Postal Service Makes Final Decision on Proposed Relocation of Almena WI Post Office located at 135 Soo Avenue East

ALMENA, WI — In accordance with 39 C.F.R. § 241.4, the United States Postal Service has made its final decision with respect to the Postal Service’s proposal to relocate retail services from the above-referenced Post Office to a new location within the area defined at the June 6, 2019 public meeting.

The Postal Service has initially identified a new building next to the Village Building. If this location is not adequate or an agreement cannot be reached with its owner, the Postal Service will consider other sites.

The Postal Service discussed the proposal with the community on May 14, 2019 and at a June 6, 2019 public meeting. The Postal Service has carefully considered all of the concerns expressed in those discussions, as well as in appeals and comments received after the public meeting. For the reasons set forth below, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with the relocation.

Due to a fire at the facility, the Postal Service’s landlord opted to terminate its lease. Therefore, the Postal Service must move forward with relocation of the Post Office. The Postal Service anticipates providing the same services at the new location as were previously provided to our customers at the previous location.

Additionally, the Postal Service plans to continue services at the Barron, WI Post Office located at 437 E La Salle Avenue until the replacement facility is open and operating as a Post Office. The Barron Post Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Almena community, the Postal Service properly considered community input and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
