Another Boston champ

As the Postal Service works to revitalize its Express Mail product, there’s one district in the system that’s already on target. In the last quarter, the Boston District had more than a 97 percent on-time delivery rate for overnight pieces.

What’s the secret of its success? According to District Manager Charles Lynch, the district rigorously monitors how Express Mail moves through the system. In addition, Lynch says, employees are quick to respond to problems, and everyone in the district has an acute awareness of the importance of getting Express Mail delivered in time to meet its commitments.

Tracking and monitoring Express Mail also plays a big role. Boston tracks each and every mailpiece by office to determine if there’s a delivery problem, and, if so, where it is. The lessons learned are incorporated into current practices, and Post Office operations managers and area managers meet daily to go over issues.
