Thanks to changes allowed by the Postal Act of 2006, USPS can now get a leg up on the competition in the shipping market. For the first time ever, the Postal Service will be offering volume-related prices for Express Mail, Priority Mail and other shipping services starting May 12.
Postal Service products are currently priced using a “one price fits all” approach. That means customers pay the same price per piece regardless of the number of packages they send or the payment system they use.
But beginning May 12 — all that changes. Customers will be able to take advantage of commercial volume pricing, minimum volume rebates, online price breaks and other pricing incentives.
“These innovative pricing incentives will make our products more attractive to all shippers, especially small businesses,” said PMG Jack Potter. “We’re pricing our products to sell in today’s competitive shipping market.”
