Notice: Publications 97 and 97A Updates

The May 12, 2008, implementation of the new prices and fees will also include an updated version of Publication 97, Express Mail Manifesting Technical Guide, and Publication 97A, Express Mail Manifesting Implementation and Administration Guide. Express Mail^® Manifesting is an automated system that allows a mailer to document postage and fees for all pieces in an Express Mail mailing through the transmission of an electronic file to the U.S. Postal Service^®.

The updated Publications 97 and 97A will include:

• New label format.
• Use of Mailer ID instead of DUNS number.
• New Event Codes.
• Dedicated chapter on refunds and indemnity claims.
• Appendix B, Communications Standards, outlines the transmittal and receipt of data.
• Addition of Express Mail International^® informa­tion and reference to the Global Shipping Software (GSS).
• Resource information.

Postal Service™ personnel assisting customers with Express Mail Manifesting should refer to the updated version of Publications 97 and 97A for directions.
