Publication 189, Financial Aid Guide, Now Available

Publication 189, Financial Aid Guide, is a quick reference guide and training tool designed to help employees understand and perform the right steps in completing key financial activities at Post Offices™ and business mail entry units (BMEUs). Following these steps provides effective checks and balances (controls) so that we ensure our transactions are timely, accurate, and authorized. That’s not just good business practice — Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requires us to be accountable for having effective policies and procedures in place and for following those policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting. The law requires it; our customers deserve it.

The Guide lists the controls, supporting Postal Service™ policy references, and descriptions for 32 of our most important financial activities. It is the basis for Strategic Training Initiative (STI) training course number 18201–39. The guide is available online at http://blue.usps.gov/cpim. In a future issue of the Postal Bulletin, we will publish Material Distribution Center (MDC) ordering information when it becomes available.
