Eric Chavez was named vice president, Area Operations, Northeast Area in March 2019. In this position he is responsible for postal operations, including mail processing and distribution, customer service and administrative operations. Chavez reports to the Postal Service’s chief operating officer and executive vice president.

The Northeast Area includes 45 plants, 4,000 delivery and retail units and approximately 90,000 employees over a vast geographic area that includes Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, parts of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Chavez began his career in 1986 as a letter carrier in Jacksonville, FL. He has held many positions with increasing levels of responsibility including executive positions as Southern Area manager of Operations Support; Gulf Atlantic District Manager; Tampa, FL, Sr. Plant Manager; West Palm Beach Plant Manager; and Chicago, IL, Postmaster. 

Chavez is a graduate of the Postal Service’s Advanced Leadership Program. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix. He has also attended both the Kellogg Leadership at Northwestern University and the Executive Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He is certified as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt.
