IMM Revision: Canadian Labeling Information Update

Effective July 1, 2009, the Postal Service™ revised Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) Exhibit 292.47 for International Priority Airmail™ (IPA®) and International Surface Air Lift® (ISAL®) mailings to Canada. (Although ISAL information is contained in 293, Exhibit 293.452 refers readers to Exhibit 292.47 for determining Canada ISAL destination codes.)

We revised Exhibit 292.47 by adding a fifth column that lists the three-letter destination code for IPA and ISAL mailings to Canada for mailers who produce optional barcoded tray and sack labels.

Also, for mailings whose origin ZIP™ Code is the Chicago (ORD) exchange office destinating to Toronto, we identified separate three-letter destination codes for IPA letters and flats (mailed under IMM 292.47a), IPA packages (mailed under IMM 292.47b), and all ISAL mailings.

The exchange offices and labeling standards defined in 292.47 for IPA and 293.46 for ISAL remain the same.

We have incorporated these revisions into the July 1, 2009, monthly update of the online IMM, which is available via Postal Explorer® at http://pe.usps.com, and we will incorporate these revisions into the next printed version of the IMM.
