DMM Revision: Additional Changes to Periodicals Sacking Requirements

Effective March 20, 2014, the Postal Service™ is revising the Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) 705.9.0, 705.10.0, and 707.22 to revise sacking standards for nonautomation Periodicals flats and merged Periodicals flats to require sack preparation when 72 copies are prepared for a presort level. Sacking when 24 flats (or irregular parcels) are prepared for a presort level will become optional.

This modification supplements a revision announced in the November 1, 2012, Postal Bulletin and implemented in the January, 2013, DMM that made similar changes in 707.23 and 707.25 for carrier route and automation Periodicals flats. These changes allow Periodicals mailers to continue to reduce the number of required sacks they prepare and will contribute to improved efficiencies for the Postal Service.
