Birmingham AL — The U.S. Postal Service has news to deliver to all “Mockingbird” fans: A pictorial cancellation and cachet commemorating the 50th anniversary of the classic film, "To Kill a Mockingbird," will be available at the Monroe County Heritage Museum on Friday, April 13, 2012. Postmasters David Neilon (Monroeville) and Tonya Hadley (Peterman) are working with event sponsor Monroe County Heritage Museum. Museum Executive Director Stephanie Rogers was thrilled to learn that the USPS commissioned globally-renowned fine artist Nicolosi to design the pictorial cancellation and the commemorative cachet envelope (pictured left).

At 10 am on Friday, April 13, Rogers will join Neilon, Hadley, and Nicolosi, at the unveiling of the commemorative cachet envelopes at the iconic courthouse. Commemorative cachet envelopes with a cancelled stamp will sell at $40 each and will be signed by Nicolosi at the event. In addition to the cachet envelopes, USPS will sell Gregory Peck stamps at $9.00 a sheet at the event and at the Monroeville Post Office across the street. You’ll need to bring your own plain envelopes and apply the Gregory Peck stamps for USPS employees to hand cancel. USPS will accept checks or money orders. While supplies last, the commemorative cachet envelope will be available through the museum’s website at www.tokillamockingbird.com. The museum will accept checks only.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the film starring Gregory Peck, who was featured as Atticus Finch in the “Legends of Hollywood” stamp series. “To Kill a Mockingbird” is set in Monroeville, where Pulitzer Prize-winning author Harper Lee grew up just a few blocks from the old courthouse.
