U.S. Postal Service Seeks Applicants For Temporary Alabama Employment

Birmingham, AL — The U.S. Postal Service’s Alabama District will be accepting applications for temporary holiday employment as Postal Support Employee (PSE) Mail Processing Clerk, PSE Tractor Trailer Operator, PSE Motor Vehicle Operator, and City Carrier Assistant. Casual (CEP) employment will be offered on a supplemental basis.

Online applications will be accepted September 3 – 8, 2015.

Non-career, temporary positions have limited benefits, but can lead to a rewarding career appointment with the full benefits of a federal employee. Note: Limited benefits for some temporary job Post Office positions include paid vacation days, contractual pay raises, and access to the USPS non-career Employee Health Benefits Plan.

Salary range for below positions is from $9.00 to $16.97per hour, with variable work hours and work days, including holidays and weekends.

HOLIDAY TERM

POSTAL SUPPORT EMPLOYEE (PSE): Holds temporary appointments from November 14, 2015 through January 8, 2016, not to exceed 56 days. Subsequent appointments after a one-day break in service may be offered, but are not guaranteed. PSEs can be scheduled any hours, and the position is intended to be very flexible, including weekends and holidays as needed.

PSE MAIL PROCESSING CLERK: Performs a variety of clerk duties required to process mail with automated processing equipment or manual distribution.

PSE TRACTOR TRAILER OPERATOR: Assists with, and operates, a heavy duty tractor-trailer in over-the-road service, city shuttle service, or trailer spotting operation on a pre-established route to pick up and transport mail in bulk. Applicants must have a valid state commercial driver’s license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger vehicles and one year of full time unsupervised experience (or equivalent) driving a 7-ton or larger truck, tractor-trailer, or a 16-passenger or larger bus. The driving must have been in the U.S.  or its possessions or territories or in U.S. military installations worldwide.

PSE MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR: Assists with, and operates, a mail truck on a pre-established route to pick up and transport mail in bulk. Applicants must have a valid state commercial driver’s license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger vehicles and one year of full time unsupervised experience (or equivalent) driving a 7-ton or larger truck, tractor-trailer, or a  16-passenger or larger bus. The driving must have been in the U.S. or its possessions or territories or in U.S. military installations worldwide.

HOLIDAY TERM (continued)

CITY CARRIER ASSISTANT (CCA): Holds temporary appointments from December 5, 2015 through January 1, 2016, not to exceed 28 days. Delivers and collects mail on foot or by vehicle under varying road and weather conditions in a prescribed area; maintains professional and effective public relations with customers and others, requiring a general familiarity with postal laws, regulations, products and geography of the area. Applicants must have a valid state driver’s license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger. The driving must have been in the U.S. or its possessions or territories or in U.S. military installations worldwide.

CASUAL EXCEPTION PERIOD (CEP)

CASUAL: Performs mail handling, mail processing, or a combination of such duties on a supplemental basis during a Casual Exception Period (CEP). This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 56 days between November 14, 2015 and January 8, 2016. Subsequent appointments after a six-day break in service may be offered, but are not guaranteed.
