The U.S. Postal Service invites retail businesses in portions of Phoenix, Chandler, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Sun City and Surprise to consider a unique income opportunity: a partnership in which the retailer provides postal products and services to the community.
This partnership has the potential to increase foot traffic, help increase your market share and provide added value for your customers, said USPS Retail Manager Brian McCoy.
Requirements for retailers interested in a Contract Postal Unit partnership with USPS include:
- Approximately 10x15 square-feet of space available within the business.
- No private mailbox service or competitive products and services offered.
- Handicap accessibility — parking and ramp access nearby.
The more postal products and services a business sells, the more it will earn via a percentage-based compensation plan.
“Managers of contract postal units tell us that many customers who come into their business to purchase stamps and mail packages often purchase other items offered in their stores,” McCoy said.
The Postal Service is looking for businesses in several specific ZIP Code areas: 85016, 85026, 85201, 85224, 85255, 85257, 85258, 85260, 85308 and 85374.
Valley business owners interested in this opportunity may contact Steve Allen of the USPS at 602-225-3368 or at steven.r.allen@usps.gov.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
