Tom Faris, Industry Co-Chair for the Phoenix Postal Customer Council, received recognition for excellence in programming for the organization of local business mailers during National PCC Day events on Sept. 15.
In addition, the Phoenix PCC was honored nationally with a Premier PCC Gold Award for achieving national standards of excellence.
Faris was honored as PCC Industry Member of the Year in the U.S. Postal Service’s Western Area, which encompasses 17 western states. A member of the local PCC for the past 10 years, and its Industry Co-Chair for the past five, Faris is the General Manager at Mailings Direct, LLC, in Phoenix.
The awards were presented during the PCC’s annual Business Mailers Expo, held this year at the Fiesta Inn Resort Conference Center in Tempe. A highlight of the program was an address by Postmaster General John E. Potter, broadcast live via satellite to PCC members across the country.
The Postal Customer Council (PCC) program was created to establish an effective dialogue and improve communications between the United States Postal Service and its customers. More than 200 PCCs with 100,000 members nationwide help keep customers apprised of changes in service, make suggestions or improvements to their local Postmaster, and give customers a role in the Postal decision-making process.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
