Postmaster to provide holiday shipping advice on Monday

Nogales Post Office will offer Holiday DVD & CD prize drawings

December 08, 2010

Nogales Postmaster Donna Bird invites postal customers to learn about all the holiday shipping options they can choose from during a special event from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, at the Nogales Main Post Office, 300 N. Morley Ave.

During the event, customers will learn about shipping options including Priority Mail Flat-Rate boxes, and the $2 postage discount available when using the large Priority Mail Flat-Rate box to ship care packages to troops at APO/FPO addresses overseas.

“With all the Flat-Rate shipping options, the holidays couldn’t be simpler for our customers,” Bird said. “I encourage everyone in Nogales to mail early and beat the crowds that will grow as Christmas Day nears.”

At the two-hour event, customers who ship via Express Mail or Priority Mail may enter a drawing to win some timeless holiday entertainment: Either a “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” DVD of the classic TV special, or a “Let It Snow” CD featuring 11 festive songs performed by beloved artists including Frank Sinatra, The Jackson 5, Jason Mraz, Ella Fitzgerald and Paul McCartney. Both items are also available for purchase at newly-discounted prices at area Post Offices, making for perfect holiday gifts.

The Postal Service also offers pre-packaged shipping products, ReadyPost, sold at local Post Offices for customers needing sturdy, secure boxes, envelopes and even greeting cards.

“When you mail online with Click-N-Ship, you qualify for a discount on Priority Mail and Express Mail,” Bird said. “The more you ship, the more you save. When your packages are ready to be shipped, log on to usps.com/pickup to schedule free package pickup right from your home or office. Skip the trip and do all of your shipping online.”

Bird shared the following mail-by dates to ensure holiday gifts arrive on time:

Dec. 10: Military mail for many overseas bases
Dec. 15: Parcel Post, the most economical shipping service
Dec. 20: First-Class Mail
Dec. 21: Priority Mail
Dec. 22: Express Mail

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
