Darrell Stoke is the new Postmaster of Arizona’s largest city, the United States Postal Service announced today.

Stoke comes to Phoenix from San Jose, Calif., where he served as Manager, Post Office Operations for the U.S. Postal Service’s Bay-Valley District since 2008.

Stoke began his postal career in 1986 as a window/distribution clerk in Stratford, Calif. Two years later, he returned to his hometown of Lemoore, Calif., where he served as a city carrier, and later was promoted as a manager.

In 1995, Stoke was named Postmaster of Corcoran, Calif., and progressed to a series of higher-level Postmaster and managerial positions. He is a graduate of the Postal Service’s Managerial Leadership Program and Advanced Leadership Program.

As Postmaster, Stoke will oversee all USPS delivery and retail operations in the City of Phoenix.

“One of my primary objectives has always been to build a strong working relationship between management and employees,” Stoke said.

“It is vitally important for all our employees to work together to provide excellent, timely service to our customers,” Stoke added. “Through our coordinated effort, we can offer the best shipping services at reasonable prices, increase customer satisfaction and help improve the Postal Service’s financial situation.”

In his spare time, Stoke enjoys backpacking, skiing and spending time with his two daughters, Lisa and Heather.

If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 35th in the 2011 Fortune 500. In 2011, the U.S. Postal Service was ranked number one in overall service performance, out of the top 20 wealthiest nations in the world, Oxford Strategic Consulting. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity.
