COCHISE, Ariz. – Structural damage at the Cochise Post Office has forced postal officials to temporarily close the facility for customers’ and employees’ safety.
Cochise postal customers who receive P.O. Box delivery in Cochise are being asked to pick up their mail at the Pearce Post Office, 107 Frontage Rd., Pearce AZ 85625. The Pearce Post Office is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A notice to customers apologizing for the inconvenience has also been placed at the Cochise facility this morning.
Customers who have questions may contact the Pearce Post Office at 520-826-3833. In addition to Pearce, for retail services or to mail letters or packages, customers may visit the Dragoon Post Office, 4752 Dragoon Rd. (open weekdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or the Willcox Post Office, 200 S. Curtis Ave. (open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.).
Postal officials will work to install multi-unit locking mail receptacles outside the Cochise Post Office to provide local delivery as soon as possible in order to reduce the inconvenience experienced by local P.O. Box customers. Customers will be kept informed on the progress of that installation and on how to obtain box keys.
Postal customers who receive mail delivery via the carrier route normally based at the Cochise Post Office will continue to receive delivery as usual; however, any items for which customers receive a notice will need to be picked up from the Pearce Post Office for the time being.
Postal officials will be evaluating the extent of damage to the Cochise Post Office and will keep customers updated on repairs that will be necessary to reopen the facility.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
