KINGMAN, AZ — The Postal Service announced it will close the contract postal unit at 229 E. Andy Devine Ave. in Kingman on December 31, 2014 and plans to replace it with a new retail unit inside an existing downtown business by January, 2015. The Postal Service is currently soliciting downtown businesses interested in having a retail postal unit inside their existing business.

“Given our current financial condition, the Postal Service is constantly evaluating ways to save money without sacrificing service,” said Kingman Postmaster Duane Whiley. “We apologize for any inconvenience our customers may experience because of this closure, but the Postal Service is committed to identifying a more affordable downtown location in an existing business and continuing to offer fantastic service to its customers in Kingman.”

Letters announcing the change have already been mailed to all customers served by the Andy Devine Ave. location. Signage is also posted on the Andy Devine Ave. location’s door urging customers with questions to contact the Kingman Post Office at 928-753-2480.

The new retail location will not have Post Office Boxes available but customers can secure a new box at the Kingman Main Post Office at 1901 Johnson Ave or one of five other locations provided in the customer letter. All Post Office Box customers will need to forward their mail to a new address. It’s important to note that virtually every customer with Post Office Boxes on Andy Devine Ave. already receives street mail delivery from the Postal Service.

Businesses interested in submitting a bid for a contract postal unit can contact Cindy Lee at 602-225-3368.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
