The Postal History Foundation invites the public to a variety of special events to celebrate the issuance of the new USPS Star Trek Forever Stamps, which in turn commemorate the science fiction phenomenon’s 50th anniversary. The event kicks off on Friday, Sept. 2, with a special unveiling of the stamps and a special collectible postmark featuring an overhead view of the Starship Enterprise available to those who purchase the stamps at the event. Local artist Don Regole will also be on hand to provide collectible envelopes he has designed for the celebration. In addition, an extensive exhibit of Star Trek props and collectibles will be on display at the Foundation museum. Continuing the celebration on Saturday, Sept. 3, the Foundation will host a festival of free Star Trekactivities including games, kids’ stamp and Star Trek activities, a trivia contest, and a re-creation of a transporter room available for photos and selfies. In addition to the Star Trek stamps, a special themed mini-store will offer other space-related stamps for sale. Attendees are encouraged to wear Star Trek-themed costumes both Friday and Saturday. The foundation’s philatelic store, museum and Contract Post Office will all be open during the two days’ events. |
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
